‘The desolation of small things’ was a personal project for me. The title is taken from a passage from The Well of Loneliness, the book I took from a friends’ bedside after she passed away in June. I read the book over the following months, finishing it on 1st January.
The passage that stood out to me mentions the power that small objects take on after we lose someone, and I included small photos and oil paintings of objects that either belonged to her or remind me of her, as well as film photographs of the book, and of the last message I received from her.

I added bunting and balloons to the installation, as I never want to forget the amount of joy and fun she brought to everyone around her.
